Philip Yancey

Philip Yancey is a distinguished Christian author and speaker who has impacted millions of people worldwide. He holds M.A. degrees in Communications and English from the graduate school of Wheaton College and from the University of Chicago.

Philip Yancey has cemented himself as one of the gentle giants of the Christian faith through the various articles and books he has penned over the past four decades. Admired by U.S. Presidents and endorsed by leaders such as Chuck Colson, Paul Harvey, J.I. Packer, Chuck Swindoll, and Rick Warren, Yancey’s hope-filled words touch the deepest parts of the human heart while speaking deep theological truths that comfort and challenge. Billy Graham noted, “There is no writer in the evangelical world that I admire and appreciate more.” Among the institutions where he has lectured or spoken are Calvin College, Colorado Christian University, Gordon College, Seattle Pacific University, Westmont College, Wheaton College, and Whitworth College. Furthermore, Yancey taught an adult education class for 8 years at LaSalle Street Church in Chicago.

Yancey is a prolific writer, influential editor, and renowned speaker. From 1971–1978, he was an editor and then publisher for Campus Life, a sister publication of Christianity Today. In 1978, he launched his career as a full-time writer. He became a journalist for various publications including Christian Century, Publisher’s Weekly, Reader’s Digest, and The Saturday Evening Post. Shortly thereafter, he also began serving as an editor and writer for Christianity Today, a position he still holds today as Editor-at-Large. As a speaker, he has traveled to every continent except Antarctica and ministers with several parachurch organizations including trips in recent years to Brazil, China, Ethiopia, India, Nepal, Poland, and South Africa. He also records various television and radio programs including RBC Ministries’ broadcast Discover the Word.

Still, it is through his award-winning books that Yancey has made the greatest impact. To date, Yancey has penned more than 20 books, 13 of which have won Gold Medallion Awards from the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association. Two of his books, The Jesus I Never Knew (1996) and What’s So Amazing About Grace? (1998) garnered the Book of the Year Award from the Christian Bookstore Managers. Among his most-treasured works are Fearfully and Wonderfully Made, a book he co-authored with Dr. Paul Brand; Finding God in Unexpected Places; Reaching for the Invisible God; and The Bible Jesus Read. What Good Is God?, Grace Notes, Soul Survivor, and Prayer: Does It Make Any Difference? are among Yancey’s most recent works.
